I was reading a Dr. Seuss book to my daughter recently and it hit me. There is a lot of great inspiration and life advice in Dr. Seuss books. The thought brought me to a question—
Why the hell haven't I taken this advice?
Of the endless wisdom given in these children's books—we seem to ignore it all. We're out here operating like we've heard it all before, but we fail in application.
The stuff we teach kids is apparently the stuff we grow out of as adults. A single Dr. Seuss reading can provide multiple insights that could improve our outlook and our day. But we just don't do it. Are we above it? Is it simply child's play?
Whether it be dealing with anxiety and obsession or staying positive, or respecting your elders, or trying new things—I've found all of it in a Dr. Seuss book. Maybe you could find some inspiration too. Run with it. See where it takes you—
Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You. —Happy Birthday to You!
A person's a person, no matter how small. —Horton Hears a Who
You're off to Great Places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, So... get on your way! —Oh the Places You'll Go
I have heard there are troubles of more than one kind. Some come from ahead and some come from behind. But I've bought a big bat. I'm all ready you see. Now my troubles are going to have troubles with me! —Dr. Seuss
Today was good. Today was fun. Tomorrow is another one. —Dr. Seuss
If you never did you should. These things are fun and fun is good. —Dr. Seuss
We need the advice that we give to children. Don't just hear it. Apply it.
Worth noting: During the 1990s, the National Education Association advocated for a day to celebrate reading all over the United States. In 1998, it started Read Across America and decided to hold it on the same day as Dr. Seuss’ birthday—March 2nd.
The Good Doctor!
Absolutely love this! I have to start reading some Dr Seuss.
