My eyes popped open to one of the worst melodies I've ever heard in my life. I reached to the side of my bed and silenced my alarm, taking a stiff inhale of cold, dry air. I leaned up and sat on the edge of my bed, head in hands.
“I am not ready to do this again”. I sighed. “Okay, here we go”.
Sometimes life just seems like a constant daily grind. Sure, we're creatures of habit, but when the same day hits us over and over again, it can become a little daunting. It feels a little like the movie Groundhog Day.
There are opportunities to change it up or do something different, but those are few and far between when you're trudging through whole seasons of monotony.
I liken these seasons to a washing machine. You're being tossed around a bit, it feels like you almost have no control, and you're not really getting anywhere.
Just when I hit that point, where I'm on the edge of my bed questioning why I'm awake—I get up.
Every day I keep getting in the washing machine because it's temporary. It might not feel like anything is ever going to change. Some days it feels like I'll always be on a constant struggle bus. But it's not true.
The endless history of mankind says otherwise. As a human race, we've always gone through cycles of habit. Seasons. There's always a start and an end.
In the Bible, the book of Ecclesiastes talks about “a time for everything under the sun”. Even if you're not a believer, you can draw inspiration from the wise words.
Just like every life ever lived, there's a time. There are seasons. And there's beauty in the temporary.
For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under the sun.
a time to be born, and a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
a time to kill, and a time to heal;
a time to break down, and a time to build up;
a time to weep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
a time to seek, and a time to lose;
a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
a time to tear, and a time to sew;
a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
a time to love, and a time to hate;
a time for war, and a time for peace.
