I've always been somewhat fascinated by astronomy. The way everything works with the orbit and our solar system and the stars—it all keeps me in wonder. It constantly changes, yet somehow remains consistent.
The moon is especially interesting. It cycles through different phases as our lives go by. But the new moon is most intriguing.
During a new moon, we don't even see anything. There's a void in the night sky. A deep nothingness out there.
That's when we call it new. And I can't help but think the sky is a blank canvas, with an ability to be anything it wants in that phase.
It reaffirms to me that change will always be inevitable. But with every new change, the canvas is right there. Blank again.
When the moon is full and lighting up the sky, it feels like it'll last forever. It feels like things will always be this way. But slowly and surely it wanes. Until it eventually disappears.
New.
The new moon can be scary. There's nothing to fall back on. Just untapped potential. But it doesn't represent a lack of something. It doesn't represent darkness or nothingness.
It represents starting anew.
Change is tough. But deep down I think we all know when one is needed. It could be a job or the need to end a harmful relationship. It could be starting a new workout routine.
Whatever it is, the change is likely to happen eventually. And it might feel like it creates a void of sorts. Maybe it looks like a dark night sky, with nothing there.
But I think that's the point. We don't even understand the power we possess. That vacancy, darkness, or nothingness is only there to give us a canvas.
It's a new moon. It's not a hopeless moon or a depressed one. It's not weak or insecure or even afraid. It's new. The canvas is there. And you have the paint.
